Why I Built This Muslim Prayer App Blocker
Assalamu Alaikum, I'm Obaid. I'm a 41-year-old Muslim father and tech founder who struggled with phone addiction despite knowing it was affecting my Islamic duties and family life.
The turning point came during Ramadan 2025. I calculated my screen time for the holy month: 247 hours. That's over 10 full days of scrolling social media instead of reading Quran, making dhikr, or performing extra prayers during the blessed month.
But the real Islamic wake-up call? My child said, "Abu is always on his phone during family time." Those words hit harder than any screen time report. I was failing as a Muslim father.
I tried everything – iPhone screen time limits, digital detox apps, keeping my phone away during prayer times. Nothing worked because I was treating symptoms, not the cause. Regular app blockers don't understand Muslim lifestyle needs.
The real issue: I had no Islamic-focused digital wellness plan, especially around the five daily prayer times.
